Jump-Starting my Career

I have been so excited lately to dive right in to my career as a freelance illustrator. I’m pretty proud of the strides I’m making- I started a Patreon, a YouTube channel, and now I’m setting up my very own website and email newsletter.

This is all partly thanks to a particular opportunity: I’ve been able to subscribe to an amazing business membership called “The Candy Colored Club,” hosted by oil painter Katrina Berg (katrinaberg.com). I met her through a mutual friend, and now I’m glad to call her my friend as well. Through her and her guidance, I’ve been able to overcome my fears and hesitations and truly jumpstart my business. It has been a whirlwind, and I’ve accomplished so much already. As I write this post, I am even preparing for my very first trade show!

If I’ve come up with any little wisdom of my own through the beginning of this journey, it’s this: on the surface, many of the goals I’m going after can seem scary and intimidating. I have to “put myself out there,” and take risks. But surprisingly, the daunting nature of these goals hasn’t been crippling, and I think that is because I am so happy and grateful to be doing what I love. I am filled with satisfaction as I work on my art business, and combining that with the support I get from my amazing husband and family, I am energized to keep going. If I weren’t so passionate about what I do, I might have been tempted to quit already. But I am in this for the long haul!

As you read my posts and maybe even follow me along in my journey, I genuinely hope that you’ll find some sort of inspiration to go after your own goals. One of my favorite motivational speakers, Sean Cannell, has a tagline I find relevant to this: punch fear in the face! (That’s kind of violent, but you get the idea.) It’s an amazing feeling just to be pursuing this at all.

Thank you so much for stopping by!
